as i was reading my bible the other day, i stumbled across isaiah 53- a chapter that had captured my heart while on a missions trip in Tijuanna, Mexico this past summer. this profound prophecy of jesus christ not only displays the life of our Savior, but also the weight of his sacrifice. He gave His life and paid the highest price so that i may live and be made a new creation in Christ. Because of this grace, so undeserved, i am able to stand before the Lord and worship Him- joyously laying down my life for His glory because he laid down His life so that I may be free. each and everyday i am so in awe and struggle to understand why someone so perfect and holy would come down to earth, be rejected by men, and then die for a wretched sinner like me.

"God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

how amazing is that? i encourage you to read isaiah 53 + reflect on the great weight of this incredible sacrifice.

For  he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him.

HE WAS DESPISED AND REJECTED BY MEN; A MAN OF SORROWS,

and acquainted with fired; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he was born our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, afflicted.

BUT HE WAS PIERCED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS,HE WAS CRUSHED FOR OUR INIQUITIES. UPON HIM WAS THE CHASTISEMENT THAT BROUGHT US PEACE, AND WITH HIS WOUNDS WE ARE HEALED.

...He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; like a lamb to the slaughter and like a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.

YET IT WAS THE WILL OF THE LORD TO CRUSH HIM

When his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days. The will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors.

YET HE BORE THE SIN OF MANY, AND MAKES INTERCESSION FOR THE TRANSGRESSORS.

"monday through friday weigh heavy but saturdays and sundays are sweet respite, a burden lifted. on the weekends, hours dangle freedom from their hands like birds on a string. the freedom is sometimes gentle and swaying on the front porch rocker, and other times it's wild and raucous and dancing till dawn."
